Ondo presents Rapporto, the first solo exhibition of Swiss artist Mia Sanchez in Tuscany. For the first time, Ondo hosts a solo show by an international artist: an opportunity to expand research and connections within the international art scene while remaining closely tied to the geographical context, in this case the industrial area of Prato-Pistoia. Mia Sanchez presents a series of screen prints and a video work developed from the textile archive preserved at Ondo. The exhibition will be open by appointment from September 27th to November 27th, 2025.
In Rapporto, Sanchez explores the dynamics of the local textile industry, as suggested by the title, which evokes not only the idea of a professional or official document but also the implicit hierarchies in production processes. The textile archive conserved at Ondo samples becomes the starting point for a visual investigation in which the creation and classification of textiles – printed and organised into patterns – offers a reflection on the socio-political implications tied to the history of their material use and the principles of reproducibility.
Clothing, understood as a social language, continues a research path previously undertaken by Sanchez, in which the uniform is read as a symbol of the relationship between personal identity and community belonging. In the exhibition, garments are combined with backgrounds of graphic patterns – dots, stripes, and motifs – created by the artist through repeated screen printing modules, evoking the industrial and standardised practices of textile production. This seriality is also present in the video Rapporto (2025), in which the “Chinese whispers” shows how variations and errors can emerge from uniformity, transforming into distinctive signs. Here, the human factor, with its imperfections, becomes central: it reminds us of the singularity and fragility of the bonds that support social interactions and our forms of communication.
Rapporto thus becomes a polysemous term, capable of referring to interpersonal relationships, work reports, and the modular repetition of patterns on fabric. A synthesis that raises questions about individual freedom within collective dynamics and forms of self-assertion in contemporary society.
